Prologue to the beginning of the Degrees of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.. Fourth Degree Prologue.

The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, commonly known as the Scottish Rite, is an appendant body of the worldwide fraternity known as Freemasonry. It is organized into Orients (generally states) and Valleys.

Each Valley has up to four Scottish Rite bodies, and each body confers a set of degrees. The degrees are dramatic presentations of Masonic history, morality, and philosophy. Many degrees are presented in costume. In the Southern Jurisdiction these bodies are:

Lodge of Perfection (4th through 14th degrees)
Chapter of Rose Croix (15th through 18th degrees)
Council of Kadosh (19th through 30th degrees)
Consistory (31st and 32nd degrees)

The Supreme Council confers the 33rd Degree of Sovereign Grand Inspector General.
